Whoer VPN Review
Updated · Jun 06, 2022
Best for: Users with a limited budget.
WHOIX LTD, the Cyprus-based company that owns Whoer VPN, hasn’t shared much about its history. I also couldn’t find any information about it on sites like Capterra or Trustpilot.
According to the official website, the vendor has servers in 20 countries across Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
It also has a wealth of privacy and security features, enabling it to deliver service to anyone looking to be incognito online.
It’s also multiplatform (works on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, and iOS). If you need a Whoer VPN extension, you can choose from Chrome, Opera, and Firefox.
In terms of downloads, it has:
- 600K+ on Opera Store
- 10K+ on Chrome Store
- 2K+ on Firefox
Moverover, most Whoer VPN user reviews are positive.
So, the big question is:
Does it have all the necessary features?
Here’s what I found during my research for this Whoer VPN review.
Whoer VPN Features
Here are Whoer’s functionalities.
Traffic drops are all too common, giving anyone looking to exploit the vulnerability a field day.
Fortunately, Whoer monitors the network on your behalf.
It keeps an eye on your internal and external data movements to your device in case of network interruptions.
Although this tool has a kill switch, you have to turn it on manually.
Another reason why Whoer VPN is so safe is that it has a double VPN.
Here’s what that means:
You’ll have an extra layer of encryption, translating to protection and security for your data.
Think of the double-layer security as wearing a warm fuzzy jacket on top of a pullover in biting cold.
Whoer VPN has top-notch security.
That’s because it uses AES-256 encryption to conceal your data.
Let me explain:
AES stands for Advanced Encryption Standard.
It’s the most secure way to protect data. The algorithm that it uses converts information into unintelligible gibberish.
If you connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots, this military-grade encryption will have your back.
This VPN has a zero-log policy.
No one, not even the company, will know what you’re up to online.
Whoer VPN Advanced Features
Here are some additional features of the Whoer VPN app that you’ll love.
Launch at Startup
You can set Whoer VPN for Firefox and other browsers to prompt you to connect it every time you start your machine.
I found this function to be extremely useful.
If you prefer a specific server, you can enable the “Auto Connect” feature to link to it every time you’re online. Real time-saver.
Multiplatform and Gadgets
As I mentioned earlier, the tool is suitable for Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, and macOS.
By the way, you can connect up to five devices at the same time!
How cool is that?
It can also be used with different browsers such as Chrome and Opera. There’s also a Whoer VPN for Firefox.
DDoS Attack Protection
Whoer protects gamers against DDoS attacks. It filters game traffic and analyzes the characteristics of protected resources.
Whoer VPN Server Locations
Whoer security and privacy VPN has servers in 20 countries, including:
- The United States of America
- The United Kingdom
Note that some servers have more than one IP address in countries such as the US (4), Canada (2), France (3), Switzerland (2), Sweden (2), and Russia (4).
Why does that even matter?
The solution distributes the load amongst the IPs giving you faster speeds.
Whoer VPN Speed
Speed is essential when it comes to VPNs because it determines whether your machine slows down or not.
So I tested my device using Speedtest.
Before that, I have to mention two things:
- I used Whoer VPN for Windows
- I opted to test the VPN using the free version before making a purchase.
Note that Whoer doesn’t offer a free trial for its premium packages. The free version only provides access to one server in Amsterdam.
Here’s what I found:
My base download and upload Mbps were 1.50 and 0.27, respectively.
While using Whoer, the download speed dropped by 0.96 Mbps, while that of uploads went up by 0.03.
It's a considerable drop of download speed, and there are much faster VPNs out there.
Whoer VPN Privacy and Jurisdiction
Whoer VPN’s head office is in Cyprus. The country is away from the reach of the Fourteen Eyes.
It’s a pact between nations to share user information. This infringes on privacy rights since it enables governments to spy on anyone on the internet.
Whoer VPN Security and Protocols
UDP provides a great experience with fast speeds even with heavy usage or for real-time systems.
The only danger is that it can be unreliable when it comes to data delivery. It’s not sensitive to information loss and doesn’t notify the user if it happens. It also sometimes delivers datagrams in the wrong order.
Note that Whoer doesn’t automatically enable this option. You have to do it from the Settings tab.
Whoer VPN Leak Test Results
Does Whoer VPN for PC hide traffic data well? Do the versions for other platforms manage to?
I set out to find out. For the task, I used Ipleak.com and the company’s service.
Here are some shots to show what I discovered when I tested the feature:
Before enabling the VPN:
The results after connecting Whoer VPN:
The second test proves that connecting Whoer VPN for Chrome helped protect my IP.
Whoer VPN and Streaming Services
Hate content limitation and blockage?
Worry no more because this VPN will serve you on this front.
Whoer VPN for Netflix works very well, helping you bypass its geo-restrictions. It changes your IP to enable you to watch content that you otherwise can’t.
In addition to that, you can also access:
- BBC iPlayer
- Amazon Instant Video
How Good is Whoer VPN for Torrenting?
The Whoer VPN torrent feature uses unlimited P2P sharing. Note, however, that only the Amsterdam, Ukraine, and Russia servers are available.
Honestly speaking, it is on the slower side when it comes to this functionality. That means you can’t use it to download large files if you need them quickly. Even for smaller ones, it takes forever.
Can Whoer VPN Bypass Geo Blocks?
In the course of writing this Whoer VPN review, I tried to access games with geographical location restrictions. I was able to.
That’s because the company owns DNS servers that guarantee sustainability and security.
Ease of Use
Signing up for Whoer VPN is straightforward and takes a few short minutes. After setup, I was able to use it right away.
Its dashboard was clutter-free, enabling me to find anything that I needed with ease. I found that allowing functions like use proxy, kill switch, or auto connect didn’t require me to dig into my techie prowess.
All I had to do was use a slider, sit back and let Whoer do the rest.
Whoer VPN Client support is available during UTC + 3 (GMT + 3) 10: 00-18: 00. The company offers two options to contact it, namely:
- Live chat
You’ve probably read Whoer VPN user reviews regarding its client support - they seem to be full of praises.
I tested the customer service staff twice on different days. I have mixed feelings about it.
The first time I interacted with Whoer client support, it was nothing short of outstanding. I shot them a couple of questions. Not only did they give me satisfactory answers, but they were very willing to clarify the information.
So, I decided to contact them a second time.
The response I got was very different. The contact person was very aloof and cold. Not even a greeting.
They sent me a link instead of answering my question.
I tried asking again, but they insisted I follow the link. I explained that I was in a hurry, so I couldn’t manage to go through the link to find what I needed. That’s when I got my answer.
You never know what you’ll get here.
Whoer VPN Price
Whoer VPN has a free version available, however, it doesn’t have a free trial for its premium packages.
It has a 30-day money-back guarantee so that you can claim back your money in case you’re unhappy with it. Here are its rates:
- One month - $9.90
- Six months - $39 ($6.50/month)
- 12 months - $46.90 ($3.90/month)
Whoer VPN Review - Verdict
Whoer VPN is a good VPN.
It offers zero log policy, kill switch, streaming option, UDP, 256-bit AES encryption, double VPN, and other goodies.
One of the oddest things about this solution is that it’s got very scanty information on its website regarding some of its features. This can interfere with user experience for non-techies.
A few cases in point are:
- Whoer VPN plugin offers zero details regarding the types of protocols it uses or even their benefits.
- Users have to enable options like kill switch, proxy, or UDP from settings
The Whoer VPN free version only provides two server locations in the Netherlands with a speed of 1Mbps.
In addition, it has a small server network. Therefore, it limits the amount of streaming that you can do.
While experimenting with the tool to compile this Whoer VPN review, I discovered that it’s suitable for midrange service. It’s also fantastic for you if you need to connect several devices simultaneously. It allows up to five.
To be honest, it doesn’t offer as many features as some of its contenders. It’s not exactly the best VPN service. But it’s still a good option if you’re on a budget.
